Ionization Containment Unit

Taking a Closer Look at the Revolutionary ICU

Server Particle Removal System

The ICU contains particles from cabinets and racks with server equipment up to 8’ tall. The ICU connects with the hot aisle side of racks and cabinets, and as the ionizer (sold separately) air is introduced to the server, the static clinging particles release into the ICU from the exhaust of the

PROTECT UPTIME

78% of downtime in data centers is attributed to contamination.

Particles and gasses cause downtime to servers, computer network and storage equipment by producing corrosion and arcing between circuit points.

PROTECT AGAINST CORROSION DUST & FLAMMABLE ARCS

Static charged dust, moisture-laden particles and other micro-elements stick to circuitboards, chipsets, power supplies and heat-sinks creating misreads and catastrophic downtime on servers.

IONIZING AIR

Our interior server cleaning service introduces ultra clean ionized air into the intake vent of a server, effectively removing the static cling of particles inside the server.

PARTICLE RELEASE

Once the static cling is removed, the particles release into the computer server’s normal air path, exiting out of the server’s exhaust fan system (hot air exhaust vent).

CONTAINMENT

A cleanroom grade HEPA containment unit captures all of the released contaminates, so the rest of the devices in the room do not get recontaminated

LASER PARTICLE COUNTING

The containment unit has a laser airborne particle counter integrated to confirm the levels being released and allows a confirmation of cleanliness according to ISO 14644 filter efficiency regulations.

ICU DETAILS

The ICU (Ionization Containment Unit) incorporates ISO 8 dust control for server cabinets and racks (42 U – 58U), making it easier to create temporary containment to clean server equipment.

Introduce ionized air into the intake of air-cooled server computer equipment inside the rack, this detaches the static cling of the dust and allows dust inside of the server to release via the exhaust where the ICU contains the released contamination into its HEPA filter chamber.

View your dust! The back panel comes equipped with inspection light and view pane allowing you to observe the dust removed from the server real time.

The optional Laser airborne particle counter samples the airflow allowing quantification of contamination levels releasing from the server.

Durability, flexibility, and functionality have all been increased making this the most advanced containment enclosure available.

ICU Containment Units are built from all industrial components from durable materials. When purchasing a ICU you have the added assurance of knowing you are purchasing a product from the company that started mobile containment over 25 years ago. Time tested, our containment units are hands down the best mixture of durability and flexibility available.

  • The enclosure is over three times stronger than traditional containment enclosures. This advanced material meets NFPA 701, California Fire Marshal, CPAI 84 and FMVSS 302 fire retardant specifications.
  • Detachable Flanges for larger containment. Connector flanges allow multiple units to be connected together.
  • Made to accommodate 42U Server Cabinet (73.6 inches or 1866.90mm) to 58U (11.25 inches or 2825.75mm) Enclosures to meet your facilities specific needs. Both units are adjustable down to a working height of 3’ for easy transport.
  • Reinforcements in high stress and wear areas ensure long life.
  • “Sag” Restraints prevent the enclosure from sagging when lowered. The enclosure folds on itself easing use at all heights.
  • Bolt Action make it easier to adjust the height and increase the strength and rigidity of the intake panels.
  • Collapsible Design allow the unit to be stored easily taking up less space. New features allow a unit that is collapsed to be set up in less than 2 minutes.

The Wheelbase

Every Ionization Containment Unit is equipped with a wheelbase that adds the mobility to Mobile Containment Solutions.

The ICU Wheelbase is a solid reinforced aluminum platform able to support over a quarter of a ton on its four locking, non-skid casters enabling the unit to be moved from point to point with tools, equipment and even a ladder still in the unit.

The Frame

The ICU’s durability is as impressive as its functionality partially thanks to the innovative frame design. Unlike other containment options, the ICU is built with an adjustable yet solid aluminum frame.

The ratcheted height adjustments enable the user to have maximum control while the bolt action systems offer a smooth transition. Each of the sections are equipped with a locking mechanisms that fit securely into rubber gaskets giving the ICU superior flexibility with uneven server cabinet door configurations and wire management surfaces.

The ICU Complete Negative Air Machine combines power & flexibilty to form the perfect solution for HEPA filtered negative pressure.

The Complete Negative Air Machine can be used as a negative pressure generator for the ICU when server equipment needs to be cleaned on the interior while equipment is in operation or as an extra precaution during installations to keep particle levels low.

The ICU Complete Negative Air Machine offers a revolutionary combination of power, efficacy and convenience. Weighing in at 44 lbs this negative air machine delivers a variable speed to match the exhaust of your cabinet with no back pressure. The ICU Complete Negative Air Machine also comes equipped with a DOP Stage 2 First Pass Pre-filter ensure by one pass HEPA filtration for air clearance every time!

The three stage HEPA filtered ICU Complete Negative Air Containment comes equipped with all filters factory installed.

When used with as a part of the ICU Containment System, the Complete Negative Air Machine can save a data center facility time and money.

The ICU Negative Air Machine comes equipped with the following filters installed:

First Stage Pre-Filter – High quality filter restores negative air machines to full efficiency. Replace regularly to ensure maximum performance.

Second Stage DOP Compliance Filter –The addition of the 2nd stage DOP Filter Kit ensures one pass HEPA filtration. This filter allows the ICU Negative Air Machine to pass laboratory DOP testing conducted per ANSI standards, achieving an efficiency rating of 99.97% against oily aerosol particles down to 0.3 microns.

HEPA Filter – ICU HEPA Filters combine filtration ability with filter capacity. To maximize filter life be sure to change the first stage pre-filter regularly.

More Information

Every data center operating regulation guide from server manufacturer’s has mitigation of residue, gasses and micro-dust from the environment (especially construction) in their standard language. Without ongoing confirmation of the environmental standards being met, warranties on the servers can be void creating a problem for the owner of data center, and in turn the construction company responsible. Worse yet, some of the damage that can be created from the micro dust and gases are sometimes irreversible.

The Ionization Containment Unit helps enterprise and hyperscale data centers that utilize outdoor air cooling methods to control particle loads inside of their data center equipment, lowering the risk of downtime and ancillary cable port connection failures.  Already utilized in data centers of all sizes nationwide

Terms of Use

Note: The ICU (Ionization Containment Unit) lowers risk of downtime from micro dust causes of data center equipment failure, however does not make claims that are absolute. Reduction of risk from ICU product usage is not to be construed as a guarantee of uptime; Air Circuit is not responsible for equipment loss or failures. and usage is only a part of particle mitigation and reduction and application of this unit is a tool for usage in risk assessment for your facility along with building design, protocol, energy patterns, cooling units, cooling balancing and other particle reduction items and tasks.

Regulations on mandatory operations have included particle control to ISO 8 standards as part of their requirement, or warranty can be forfeited. A few examples are attached (See Attached Examples – Oracle Storagetek Assurance Guide page c-3 & c-4, and Dell technical guide page 33). There are many other server guides out there that specify particle control and specialized cleaning or the customer is liable for improper conditions and can forfeit warranties (many of them also highlight specifically the affects of improper cleaning methods and testing abilities). Your SET3 environmental report discusses some of the standards and the regulating authorities.
